  January 2008: New Land Law
A new Angolan land law was adopted in 2007 which gave three years for individuals or communities to register their land. Howwever, there has been a slow pace in the registration of land in many provinces. If land is not registered by 31 December 2009, it will be in the hands of Government. Not only will this lead to an increase in land conflicts but the possibility for further capture of rural land by large corporations". Hakijamii is appealing for support to local organisations to empower local communities with knowledge of the law and the procedures for registration of land.
